Meet the author

Ran Wei Baker is a Chinese American children's book author based in Maplewood, NJ. The Boba Bear Bilingual series are Ran's first self-published children's board books. She saw a need for more bilingual books in the children's books market, especially for modern families like hers with mixed-heritage children.

Boba Bear is Ran’s love letter to her daughter, Lily. She wanted to create relatable and engaging learning books that make reading a fun experience for both parents and children, in hopes that multicultural kids like Lily can find joy and take pride in seeing books on the shelves that celebrate their culture and language.

Somewhere in between storytelling and writing, Ran is a wanderlust. She enjoys road trips, hikes in the mountains, and cuisines from all over the world. Music is her native language, and her favorite brain foods are boba and books. Ran is a wife to an amazingly supportive partner, proud daughter to immigrant parents, and mother of a sweet and playful little bilingual boba bear cub, Lily.

Meet the illustrator

Haley Moss’ path to prominence as a self-taught illustrator has been a circuitous one. Growing up in White Plains, NY, Haley always found herself drawn to art and illustration.

After graduating from Lehigh University in 2014, where she majored in Psychology, the next logical step was to join the low-pressure world of fashion as a product developer. After six years, and a worldwide pandemic-induced layoff and way too many doodle-covered documents, the next next logical step was to embrace her creativity (and poverty) and launch her career in illustration.

Since the latter half of 2020, Haley has successfully completed illustrating 9 children’s books, developed and illustrated the concept art for a kids animated TV series, and has multiple projects to come in the pipeline.
